Why My Pilates Classes Feel Different
My classes are intentionally designed to go beyond movement. While we absolutely focus on proper form, progression, and honoring the Pilates method, I place equal importance on how the experience lands in the body.
For me, Pilates isn’t just about what an exercise looks like—it’s about:
The Experience Matters In every class, I’m creating an environment where clients can:
That means I’m constantly reading the room, adjusting tone, tempo, and cueing in real time—not to deviate from the method, but to bring it to life in a way that meets people where they are.
Rooted in the Method, Adapted with Intention. I have a deep respect for Pilates principles and the structure laid out. That foundation guides everything I teach. At the same time, in contemporary Pilates (fusion-style classes), it can be easy to drift off course. I’m very aware of that line, and I actively:
My Role as an Instructor. I don’t just deliver a class—I lead the room. That means:
Bottom Line. The difference in my classes is not a lack of structure—it’s a deeper layer of intentionality. Movement is the vehicle. The experience is what creates change.
For me, Pilates isn’t just about what an exercise looks like—it’s about:
- How it feels
- How it’s processed by the nervous system
- How it carries over into daily life
The Experience Matters In every class, I’m creating an environment where clients can:
- Connect more deeply to their bodies (not just perform movement)
- Regulate their nervous system through breath and pacing
- Build awareness, not just intensity
- Leave feeling different than when they walked in
That means I’m constantly reading the room, adjusting tone, tempo, and cueing in real time—not to deviate from the method, but to bring it to life in a way that meets people where they are.
- Assess the level and readiness of the group
- Make in-the-moment adjustments when needed
- Pull things back to fundamentals when appropriate
- Prioritize control, alignment, and intention over speed or complexity
My Role as an Instructor. I don’t just deliver a class—I lead the room. That means:
- Making decisions in real time
- Supporting clients through both strength and limitation
- Holding a standard while still allowing space for individual needs
- Creating a consistent, elevated experience that clients trust
Bottom Line. The difference in my classes is not a lack of structure—it’s a deeper layer of intentionality. Movement is the vehicle. The experience is what creates change.
